Local Golf Event Seeks Golf Themed Business Gifts

For reasons I’m not entirely sure of, we have here at Head First Golf been getting a lot of emails soliciting donations for local charity events. This puzzles me on several fronts actually. First we are just a privately owned forum for golf commentary and don’t sell any sort of executive or business golf gifts or event awards. But the more mystifying issue for me is what the person who sends these emails is really thinking. Let me explain:
The emails are typically poorly constructed and aside from usually including a few lines promoting why their cause or golf event is worthy, just ask for the cash and gifts. Apparently none of these folks have a business background or at least a marketing background or perhaps they would have paused, ever so slightly to address the age old business concept of WIIFM.
Yes, What’s In It For Me. Apparently just the concept of selflessly donating to one unknown (and unprovable) local charity is supposed to be it’s own reward. and it never occurs to any of these folks that we are getting the same looking short email from loads of other little charities as well.
What the miss is that that there could be a ton of requests and that any institution has only so many funds to give out for charities that if they really wanted to make an impression they should explain to me what they are willing to do for me (that’s a collective we) in return – whether that’s on the course or off.
But sadly there is never the slightest promise of a favor in return and so unfortunately these poorly written requests get deleted. I’m not sad about the deletion of self focused needly emails but pause from time to time wondering if any of these events are ones I really would have wanted to donate to.
